A/an introduces one nonspecific singular count noun; choice follows sound, not spelling. The identifies a referent recoverable from context or shared knowledge. Zero article appears with many plural/uncountable generic nouns and proper names.

Notice how form and meaning work together. Read examples aloud, identify the controlling word or clause, and compare them with nearby alternatives before applying the pattern in new writing.
