Adverbs

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, other adverbs, clauses, or whole sentences. Manner often follows the verb/object; frequency commonly appears before a main verb but after be; degree sits near what it intensifies. Placement changes meaning, so keep the adverb close to its target.

• She carefully reviewed the contract.
• They rarely arrive late.
• The explanation is extremely clear.
• Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
